Investigating heat kit
-
Description
Explore all aspects of heat and temperature with
the five activites and two demonstrations included
in this hands-on kit. Students investigate thermal
conductivity, phase change, radiation, linear
expansion, convection of liquids, and more. Simple
experiments include heat transfer using hot and
cold water; phase change of water into ice, then back
into water; and more. Students test the different
rates of thermal conductivity of different metals
and then extend their experiemnt to determine the
specific heat of unknown metals. Heat transfer by
radiation is also completed to highlight how the
color of a substance affects its thermal properties.
The final hands-on demonstrations illustrate both
linear expansion and heat convection. Kit includes
radiation cans, heat conductometers, a specific heat
specimen set, alcohol thermometers, LCD strips,
and teacher and student guides. Developed by the
Science Kit product development team. Grades
7–12. Bunsen burners, beakers, a hot plate, and an
infrared lamp are required, but not included.
